The
program initiated in 1994 is focused on bringing relief to the aged and the
ageing citizens in the community. There are thousands of senior citizens
neglected, abused and abandoned by those they loved the most and still love.
One can only see loneliness, depression, anger, anxiety and hopelessness in
their eyes. Bringing solace to these people has been an arduous and demanding
task. At present there are more than 200 senior citizens in the age group of 65
and above, with the number increasing day by day. Through the years, the
BECC has strived to bring back the dignity of elderly people in the community.
Essentially, it guards and
promotes the rights of elders through its project
objectives of building confidence in the lives of older people and society at
large. The project activities foster the spirit of unity and solidarity in
creating oneness within themselves. Special programs and activities are
organized to address the basic physical, social and psychological needs of these
disadvantaged senior citizens so that they lead a life of dignity in the
community. The weekly get-togethers give them a chance to share their joys
and inner feelings with one another.
